The Pskov State University is a 'Flagship' University of Russia. "A flagship university is the first public university ever founded by a state. It typically receives more significant support from the state government, and studying at such a University is considered a privilege." The Pskov State University per se was manifested in December 2010, but its legacy dates back to 1935.

The Pskov State Pedagogical University, named after S. M. Kirov, came into existence as a merger of three other Institutions. The Pedagogical University was established in 1935, and most Pskov State Medical University ‘genes’ are inherited. So, you can expect to find all the benefits of an 86-year-old academic experience.

The Pskov State University has an infrastructure befitting the stature of a Flagship University. So, you will find 22 academic compounds and laboratories with state-of-the-art amenities. There are 11 student dormitories apart from the Student House, which has a hostel and a polyclinic.
